Process Engineer

OptiComp Corporation is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to work with other engineers in carrying out end-to-end fabrication and characterization of mode size converters and other optoelectronic devices. The task involves process development, in addition to operating processing equipment and modifying process steps and sequences. The engineer will have a multitude of challenging responsibilities and performs his activities in a multidisciplinary, highly technical environment. The candidate should have extensive hands-on microfabrication experience working in a research or manufacturing environment. The candidate’s processing experience should include photolithography, wet and dry etch processing, thin film deposition, cleaning and handling of semiconductor wafers, in addition to some familiarity with metrology and analytical tools such as ellipsometry, profilometry, optical and electron microscopy.

Key Activities will include:
  • Direct hands-on fabrication of mode size converters and other optoelectronic devices under limited or no supervision
  • Operation of various processing tools (ICP-RIE, RIE, PECVD, electron beam deposition, mask alignment)
  • Handle and use processing chemicals and gases safely and according to procedures
  • Carry out diagnostic analysis of processing steps using analytical (microscopy, SEM, AFM) and metrology (profilometry, ellipsometry) tools
  • Testing of fabricated devices (transmission losses, laser LIV, and spectra)


  • Requirements:
    The successful applicant will be qualified in a relevant technical discipline, having a basic knowledge and understanding of science and be able to adapt to a wide range of different tasks and quickly learn new techniques and procedures. Ideal candidates should also be organized and forward thinking, and demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in their approach to work and problem solving.

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree in EE, Physics, Microelectronics or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in the fabrication of optoelectronic devices, or the equivalent combination of education and industrial experience.
  • LabView programming skills desirable
  • Must work well in team-oriented environment
  • Must possess good manual dexterity and visual acuity
  • Must possess good oral and written communications skills, good self-organizational skills, and the ability to work with limited supervision
  • Must have familiarity with personal computers and software
  • Must maintain a clean and safe workplace and comply with all health, safety and environmental procedures and regulations
  • US citizenship required
