Senior Firmware Engineer

OptiComp Corporation is seeking an experienced firmware engineer to develop and refine interconnect and hardware/firmware interfaces to its MPOI (massively parallel optical interconnect) architecture. This highly visible position will be a lead FPGA engineer in a new embedded systems group that will interface with staff scientists and network system engineers to develop PHY-layer and Layer 2 FPGA applications in support of Opticomp’s next-generation photonics and optical switching technology. The candidate should have a working knowledge of high speed CMOS optoelectronic transceiver design, physical layer (PHY) protocol and interface issues.  Candidate will focus on applying the MPOI network to avionic as well as space-deployed environments and subsystems.

Responsibilities will include: FPGA board and system level design, development, and testing; board bring-up, BSP and device driver integration; generating software development specifications and the development of embedded application software to meet the system requirements. This position requires a high level of ability to work independently while developing functional specs and participating in the entire development life cycle, including developing and executing test plans, and creating documentation to meet customer requirements. This position reports directly to the Director of Network Engineering and requires interaction with Opticomp subcontractors.

The ideal candidates will posses the following qualifications:

Relevent Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of various network protocols such as Fibre channel, Gigabit Ethernet, TCP/IP, SONET, and RapidIO
  • Hands on experience designing FPGA-based systems in a Verilog environment
  • Experience with Xilinx, Vertex Pro 4, and FPGA protocol/design required
  • Knowledge and use of Xilinx Vertex 5 for 10 Gigabit links
  • Experience with Xilinx cores, e.g, Microblaze, RocketIO, XAUI, SERDES
  • Hands on experience with board level debug, laboratory test equipment
  • Working experience with device driver development under real time operating systems such as Vxworks or embedded Linux a plus
